It used to consume copious amounts of antifreeze, then the dealer shaved the head and block (apparently one or both were warped) under warranty, that slowed the consumption WAY down, but I still have to add some every couple months. Enough that I just finished off the gallon I bought for it 2 years ago. Bah. I spent 6 hours running parts yesterday at work. What did I just do? spent a couple hours running parts on my day off. Go to your local GM dealer (any brand will do) and buy some GM coolant system tabs. Not sure if my spare moving around could've been pulling on the wiring. Edited by cruz07 (03/23/15 12:56 AM)

Yikes. I know you know how to look for leaks so I'd have to guess that it's burning it from a head gasket leak. Especially since it's been messed around with before. That stupid car has consumed coolant since the day she bought it, new off the dealers lot, it had 7 miles on it when she got it home, and the dealer is 5 miles away. Honda denied there was anything wrong with it for years, until we made it a point to bring it in once a week for them to top it off when it was out of coolant (which they did for free while it was under warranty). After a month or so they took the hint and fixed it. A touch over 40k miles and they pulled the head and shaved it and the block. That slowed the coolant consumption down a LOT. But still, 40k miles later, it will drain its (rather small) overflow tank every couple months. Never enough to overheat, just one more thing to keep an eye on. It also burns oil in large amounts, another issue Honda denies, but thats another rant. Other than those 2 issues, the car has been extremely reliable, 80k miles and 12 years and it has never once broken down or failed to start. And she has had to put very little money into it. Almost makes it worth dealing with the oil consumption. almost. Anyway _________________________ -Steve

Registered: 01/14/10 Posts: 1558 Loc: AL | Rear wheel stud replacement day. Went to rotate tires and one lug refused to come off. After about 20 minutes of impact wrenching it finally backed off, and with it the threads. Went to big ass Ford dealer, they don't keep in stock. They sent me to NAPA who has hundreds. Pulled the parking brake shoes and cable out, and there was enough room to angle the lug out and in. Ended up just pulling them all and running all fresh. Hardest part is getting the spring back on the shoe, the one that is in the back of the shoe. Much swearing and break taking on that stupidly placed spring. _________________________ 2009 Grand Marquis - AFE CAI, ADTR ported manifold, HyperTech tune, 3L27 RAR, dual exhaust, Shelby GT 500 wheels, Goodyear Eagle F1's (255/285's), KYB CVPI shocks, Stillen Motorsports rotors, Hawk HPS pads, ADDCO sway bars, Metco control arms & watts. http://youtu.be/1N4bR_LqDiE | Top | |
